Video: Google Daydream Launches New Supermodels Closet VR Series feat. Kendall Jenner

A Kardashian is being featured in a 360VR Series on the Google Daydream platform. Where do I start… Well, there are different ways of looking at this news. The first reaction most will have will be to have their eyes roll until they get a headache. Some of you may drop to your knees, arms raised in the air, hands attempting to clutch the heavens, while yelling ”WHYYYY!!!???”… I for one, would understand those reactions.

However, after dealing with my initial reaction, which was to hold back the little bit of puke that presented itself in my mouth, some clarity came to mind. Maybe it was just the puke, but I digress… I started thinking about how we all talk about ”what it will take” for 360VR to take off the way we, the true believers, say and hope it will. Well, I for one believe there is not one answer to that very complicated question. After all, it took more than one element for the internet and smartphones to ”take off”, right?!

So when I read about the news that Google Daydream had struck a partnership with Vogue, arguably the World’s most well-known source for Fashion news and content, to create a 5-part miniseries, my interest was raised. The concept is rather simple: have the viewers experience a Virtual Visit of a Supermodel’s Closet. In the first episode, Kendall Jenner invites Vogue into her closet to take a full 360°look at her glorious wardrobe. From vintage Hermès to wild thigh-highs, take a peek at everything in Kendall’s growing collection.

The series was shot with the Yi Halo 360 camera, which we got to see at the NAB Show in Las Vegas this Spring. The camera is able to provide an 8K Stereoscopic video result, and this is exactly what you have as a result with this series.

In the end, while I may honestly not be a fan of Jenner as a person, I recognise the power of her (ahem) stardom. I view this as a major positive, as 360VR is starting to get adopted by major content creators across the world, and will introduce the technology to people who may have otherwise never have been interested.

What do you think about all this?!
