Celebrating AltspaceVR’s Best Moment: The Virtual Reality Wedding 🤖 ❤️

It was just a few weeks ago in late July that we heard the sad news that one of our favorite VR platforms, AltspaceVR, was shutting down and letting go of their employees by July 31st. The 360VR Community mourned their demise, and the interwebs were filled with articles, blogs, and opinion pieces about how this will affect the VR Industry.

But this week, news has broken that AltspaceVR may not be dead after all! In celebration of their rise from the ashes, we decided to share our favorite moment from the VR Social Gathering platform: the Virtual Wedding. 🤖 ❤️

Meet Elisa & Martin, the Couple who got Married in Virtual Reality

Coming from a very large Family, and being blessed with many good friendships and acquaintances, I have attended many weddings in my lifetime. I’ve participated in all sorts of weddings, from the traditional ceremonies to the destination weddings in tropical settings, from all sorts of religions, etc.

Then, on Valentine’s day (well played, Altspace!), I heard that a couple from the Wales was planning on getting Married… In Virtual Reality.

At first, I thought it was weird, and yet… So incredibly cute. Think about it… Here we are, in a world where technology advances at a blinding pace, and where tech like VR is being looked down upon by some in the media who call it a “divisive” tech, and yet that very tech is being used as the platform for one of the more Human activities: a Wedding.

This past May 25th, Martin and Elisa will tied the virtual knot, joined by family and friends thanks to VR Headsets across the globe, and were pronounced avatar and wife.

During the ceremony, one of the most incredible statements came from the photographer: “Now Martin, can you get down on one knee and reenact the proposal? Great, yes, great.” The photographer’s next words, however, introduced a new element to the event, “Ok, now can you emote hearts together? It’d be great to get a shot of the stream of hearts…ha, I didn’t know robots could blush.”…

WOW. The Future truly is Now.

We wish a beautiful, long life filled with Love to both Elisa & Martin, as well as a long and prosperous life to our friends at AltspaceVR. Love Always Wins.
