Following the trend started by Oculus & HTC Vive, Sony has announced that the PlayStation VR headset bundle will be receiving a price cut starting September 1st. Looks like the manufacturers are setting their sights on Q3 & Q4 sales figures. The price cut will enable gamers who were a bit hesitant about jumping into the VR Gaming space some extra incentive to do so.
Sony announced via its PlayStation Blog that you will be able to get the PlayStation VR Headset and PlayStation Camera in a bundle for $399.99 USD, or the PlayStation VR Headset, PS Camera, and PS VR Worlds bundle for $449.99 USD. In the case of the first bundle, pictured above, the Camera (typically $100) is now included in the price, which is more a free $100 increase in value than a price drop, but let’s not get overly technical, haha!
The PlayStation VR bundle with PlayStation VR Worlds, pictured above, now available for $449 USD was typically sold anywhere between $549.99 USD and $599.99 USD, a great savings. The bundle usually comes with the PlayStation VR Worlds sampler, which contains a few tech demos to play around with, the PlayStation VR headset, the PlayStation Camera, two PlayStation Wands, and all the necessary cables. Both bundles will be available via online purchase or at physical retail outlets, so you’ll have the option of either walking into a store and picking up a case or ordering one from online.
The post also confirms that there are now over 100 games available for the PlayStation VR, including Arizona Sunshine, Superhot VR, Batman: Arkham VR, Start Trek Bridge Crew, and the surprise hit Resident Evil 7. A couple of other games on the horizon include The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, Doom VFR, Sparc, Bravo Team and The Inpatient.
The PlayStation VR has managed to capture a sizeable portion of the VR market despite being the last to market. PSVR outsold both Oculus & Vive by far in the 1st quarter of 2017 and seem poised to keep doing so, as their headset sales do not depend on expensive & specialized PCs, and they boast a decent amount of content.
