FOX Sports has announced plans to broadcast the Michigan State vs Notre Dame football game in virtual reality, giving fans an immersive way to enjoy the upcoming game airing this Saturday September 23. FOX had previously entered the Social VR world through its FOX Sports VR app available for Android, iOS, and Gear VR/Oculus. The Game airs at 8PM eastern standard time.
In partnership with LiveLike, FOX says it will give viewers a unique look at the Fighting Irish vs Spartans game via its 360º Skycam. The livestream will be available in 360º on multiple platforms other than the FOX Sports VR app, such as FOX College Football on Facebook, CFBonFOX on Twitter, and of course the FOX Sports YouTube channel.
The VR Social Experience, offers viewers in-suite avatars as well as the ability to interact with other viewers, including verbally. “FOX Sports continues to accelerate the development of virtual reality as a unique complement to our overall package of sports offerings,” said Jeb Terry, FOX Sports Vice President of Partner & Program Management. “With the debut of social VR with the Gold Cup in July, and now the addition of the SkyCam perspective, we continue to strengthen an already robust offering to both viewers and advertisers.”
