This all seems like a joke, right? Guess what: it is NOT. At first, I thought this was a creepy yet brilliant viral marketing strategy in the ”use that VR stuff everyone is talking about to get people to talk about us” vibe. But it seems that this is an all-too serious Training Program being adopted soon by KFC to prepare their future employees.
According to the press release by Yum! Brands, who owns KFC and Taco Bell: “KFC will use the VR simulation to supplement its robust, multi-step employee training program, called Chicken Mastery Certification, which provides detailed e-Learning and hands-on training for cooks in each of KFC’s kitchens,” reads the release, which is set to go out tomorrow morning. “KFC will provide yet another platform for training by bringing the VR simulation technology to its regional general manager training classes, quarterly franchise meetings, and employee on-boarding.”
The experience is weird as all hell. But it does have a bit of a humorous tone to it, albeit a dark one. KFC will be using the Oculus Rift VR solution as their platform and hardware of choice for the training. Yum! does claim that while it takes 25 minutes to make fried chicken, the training process is cut down to 10 minutes thanks to this VR game.
Now that I know that Yum! Brands also owns Taco Bell, my brain is occupied by one question only: WHEN do we get to become the Taco Bell Chihuahua so we can virtually say ”Quiero Taco Bell”?!
