Virtual Reality was supposed to “explode” back in 2016. Here we are, at the midway point of 2017, and it is still in its infancy. I would say there are many reasons for it, the lack of Content being one of those reasons, the plethora of platforms and options being another.
And yet, despite VR being mostly a Gamer thing for now, no one can deny that the technology can be used for Positive causes, with great results. One of those situations is using the technology in Retirement Homes. While Nana & Gramps don’t necessarily rhyme with Techie, you’d be surprised to how receptive and open-minded they can be!
Barbara Tait, lead fitness instructor at Belong Warrington Care Village, said: “Our residents have enjoyed the success of increasing their cognitive and physical capabilities through exercise that is fun and specific to their needs. We have seen an increase in wellbeing, confidence and physical strength amongst customers who have used this gym equipment.” Sian Ryland, specialist fitness instructor at Belong Warrington Care Village, said: “One of our residents used to holiday in Paris. The Paris simulator on the SilverFit Mile allowed her to relive memories of times there and has given her much more motivation to participate in cardiovascular exercise.”
Virtual Reality, this “anti-social technology” being used to help our retirees get in better shape both physically and mentally, bet the pundits never saw this one coming, huh? 😉
