Summer’s here, and it’s beautiful outside—who’s up for a trip to Ikea?
Ikea’s got a lot to recommend it, but how many people look forward to a trek out to the edge of the city to wander for hours through well over two miles of store, all the while arguing with your spouse or partner? If this isn’t your idea of a good time, we don’t blame you—and neither does Ikea.
That’s the sense we get from recent Ikea news, anyway. First, there was the launch of Ikea Australia’s Virtual Reality store, allowing shoppers to browse the aisles without getting up from the sofa. That’ll save you at least an hour, but even better is that there are no other shoppers walking too slow in front of you in that the VR store, or blocking the aisle with their cart while they grab that one item they forgot.
But Ikea’s next big idea is coming with IOS 11: an Apple-partnered Augmented Reality app that will allow shoppers to try items out in AR and see how they will fit (down to the millimeter!) in their own rooms.
Here’s to getting your shopping done quickly from the comfort of your own home, so you can spend the day anywhere other than a big-box warehouse!
