Renown Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez and Actress Michelle Rodriguez (no relation) have teamed for an original first-person POV virtual reality action series. The Sin City filmmaker has just wrapped filming a short-form titled The Limit starring Fast and the Furious franchise star Michelle Rodriguez.
Robert Rodriguez penned, directed and produced the project which has Michelle Rodriguez playing a genetically enhanced weapon of mass destruction hellbent on destroying the covert agency that created her. Racer Max co-wrote and production has just wrapped up according to STX Entertainment’s VR division STXsurreal.
The series, an original concept built from the ground-up as a native VR experience, will premiere on STX’s previously announced pay-per-experience VR channel Surreal which launches an app on VR headsets in mid-2018.
“By assembling entertainment’s most sought after writers, directors, and actors we have a shot at changing the VR industry, and the combination of Robert and Michelle is a perfect example of what STX is cooking up,” Andy Vick said, co-president of STXsurreal. “It’s one hell of a ride.”
Michelle Rodriguez previously worked with the director on several different projects, including Machete, Machete Kills, and the upcoming Alita: Battle Angel. For more on Alita, which has recently been delayed for five months, check out IGN’s breakdown of the movie’s first trailer.
