We were excited to report about the 2017 Solar Eclipse, not only because we are nerds (lol), but because there was an direct connection to 360VR! As if knowing the 1st Solar Eclipse of the Century was coming wasn’t enough, we distributed many high fives at the office when we found out that many news outlets, such as CNN & Time, were doing Livestreams of the event via their respective VP Apps available on Oculus Store for Gear VR, Google Play for Daydream View, and even on YouTube 360VR.
This week we found out that the CNN & Time LIVE 360º Stream of the solar eclipse on August 23rd, 2017 was their most successful to date. Specifically, CNN reported over 5.8 million viewers, which was three times higher than the viewership for their traditional YouTube 2D. TIME.com reported an additional 5 million viewers.
The 360º Livestream located in Casper, Wyoming was shot with the Insta360 Pro, a 360 Camera we have been using on all our latest shoots, an highly recommend.
