During the 2017 Google I/O conference this past May, Google announced that it had partnered with Qualcomm to to produce the blueprint for Untethered HMDs which it dubbed Standalone VR Headsets, to be powered by the Google Daydream platform. These HMDs would use a new Technology Google developed called WorldSense, which is able to track your movements without the need for external motion sensors, or having to be tethered to a PC.
Two manufacturers were announced as partners that would produce the first Standalone VR Headsets to be powered by Daydream/WorldSense: Lenovo & HTC.
This week, LetsGoDigital reported that they had obtained info from both European Union and US Trademark offices, revealing the Trademark filed by HTC for its Standalone VR Headset: The HTC Vive Focus, as seen on image below, courtesy of LetsGoDigital:
The Questions: WHEN will this be announced/shown officially? Can we HOPE for something to be mentioned during the Oct 4th Google unveiling of the Pixel 2? Will it be available by end of year as presented during the Google I/O back in May?
So many questions, so little time!
