Disclaimer: this made me squeal like a little piglet. I am not proud of this. But can you blame me?! One of my most cherished childhood cartoons, Voltron, is getting the VR Game treatment. My life is nearly complete. OK now that we have the fanboy thing out of the way, here’s some info about the game.
The good folks over at Digital Domain (everything from Avatar to Hologram 2Pac to Spider-Man) and Universal Brand Development have developed “Voltron VR Chronicles,” the upcoming VR game based on Netflix and Dreamworks’ original animated series “Voltron: Legendary Defender”.
In this episodic VR experience, the user takes on the role of the Blue Paladin, Lance, who is caught in the middle of a massive conflict between the Voltron force and the Galra Emperor, Zarkon.
“The cinematics in this episode feature a visual style reminiscent of the animated TV series but presented for the first time in fully immersive 360-degree VR,” said Jaime Bencia Sr, creative director at Digital Domain, in a blog post. “The use of VR technology allows for more dynamic storytelling and incredible in-your-face action sequences.
“The experience will also feature moments of interactivity where the user takes control of Lance’s actions. These interactive moments include several highly engaging puzzles as well as exciting missions where the user pilots the Blue Lion, battling Galra forces with an array of highly advanced weapon systems”.
The game is due for release on September 26th for $14.99 on PlayStation VR, and on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift via Steam and the Oculus store.
