I’m a sucker for a good pun. So when I heard about a Queen VR Experience that used this great pun (VR The Champions), I had to know more so I could share with you. Most people don’t know that Queen, a legendary rock band with 4 decades’ worth of rockin’ it out had a stereoscopic cinematography nerd among the group.
That person would be guitarist Brian May, being hailed as the project “instigator”‘ who said: “This is the fulfillment of a dream. Through this unique Virtual Reality creation, fans around the world will for the first time be able to experience the excitement and energy of a Queen show in their own homes. Many of you have seen VR, but not VR like this!”
The performance was shot in 4K Stereoscopic with ambisonic audio at Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi in May 2016. The Band performs some of their most beloved hits, including We Will Rock You, Radio Ga Ga, and — of course — We Are the Champions.
VR the Champions is available now via Universal Music Group’s VRTGO VR platform, priced at $10 and can be viewed via the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Samsung Gear VR, and Google Daydream & Cardboard.
Now that Queen, one of the biggest bands in the World, has put out a quality VR Experience, we fully expect major recording artists to start recording their live performances in full 360°.
